FAQ’s About Oxygen-Based Colon CleansingDr. Loretta Lanphier, ND, CCN, HHP, CH What Are Oxygen-Based Colon Cleansers? There are many products on the market that are designed to cleanse the colon/digestive tract, but those that incorporate oxygen to accomplish the job not only perform effectively and safely but provide the added bonus of delivering this much-needed element to the entire body. The combination of a healthy, efficient digestive tract and an ample supply of oxygen to the tissues is a one-two punch that can do wonders for our health. How Important is a Clean Digestive Tract? The importance of the digestive tract, including the small and large intestines, cannot be overestimated. On a side note, while most articles use the term “colon cleansing”, we must remember that the complete digestive tract, not just the colon, benefits from cleansing—especially the small intestine where nutrients are actually absorbed. Now, back to the function of the digestive tract. It really is the starting place for literally all activity in the body. The fuel we take in is sent to the digestive tract for processing. It is here that food is broken down into nutrients and waste products, and the “good stuff” is delivered to the rest of the body via the blood stream, while the waste products are isolated for excretion from the body. That is a very simplified version of what occurs in a normal, healthy digestive tract. But what happens if the system breaks down and the digestive tract is not able to do its job correctly? Basically, if we have a sick digestive tract, we will run into two main problems: Nutrients will not be absorbed, transported or assimilated properly for the body to nourish and heal the tissues, and waste products will not efficiently leave the body, but will be introduced into our system with toxic results. To compound the problem, most people are not providing nutritious foods to the digestive tract to begin with. The Standard American Diet (SAD), which is generally high-fat, high-carb, and low-fiber, is not the kind of fuel the digestive tract was designed to receive as raw material. This “junk” food that is typically devoid of nutrients and high in toxins to begin with, tends to accumulate in the digestive tract, and slow down the whole process of digestion. As this happens over time, the half-digested food begins to solidify on the lining of the digestive tract, and thus narrows and clogs up the works. This only exacerbates the problem because the digestive process slows down even more, and instead of moving quickly through the digestive tract as it is designed to do, the food actually rots inside the digestive tract and begins to leach toxins into the bloodstream. In addition, as waste products continue to line the walls of the digestive tract, the nutrients cannot be easily assimilated into the body. So essentially, we begin to starve ourselves of needed fuel, and simultaneously poison ourselves with toxins. The primary symptom of an unhealthy digestive tract is constipation. Progressive constipation is the most common type of constipation and occurs when the need to empty the bowel is ignored thus, over a period of time, causing the bowel muscles to become sluggish and weak. This eventually causes loss of muscle strength to evacuate the bowel effectively and completely. Other causes of constipation include unhealthy diet, little to no exercise, lack of sufficient clean water consumption and prescription and/or over-the-counter meds. Therefore, a well-functioning digestive tract is necessary to your overall health and well-being. Also, many health concerns can be traced back to a sluggish digestive tract including skin concerns, painful muscles and joints, and even weight-loss difficulties. Add to this the fact that millions of people harbor intestinal parasites in their digestive tracts without even realizing it. Using one of the best oxygen-based colon cleanse products for digestive tract health is the first and most important step toward dealing with and preventing infestations of damaging organisms. As you can see, a digestive tract/colon cleanse is an excellent solution for the concerns mentioned above. But why an oxygen-based one? Aren’t there other options available, such as herbal laxatives? Yes there are, but cleanses that use oxygen are vastly superior to other types, and here’s why. When oxygen is introduced into the digestive tract in a usable form, it is able to effectively break down the compacted, solid waste materials that are clogging up the digestive tract. The trick is, the formula has to be ozonated, stabilized, and in a monatomic state (literally a single cell of oxygen) in order to be released and activated against the toxins. When this is accomplished, the oxygen can break down the solid waste into a liquid form that can be washed out of the digestive tract and eliminated from the body. Herbal remedies can only “scrape” the sides of the colon and are not able to effectively remove the years of caked on waste. The caveat is that once the digestive tract is cleansed, nutrients and oxygen can be absorbed into the bloodstream to nourish and cleanse the entire body. So the oxygen plays a key role in the actual cleansing process, but it also can then be made available to the rest of the body’s tissues. Why is that such a good thing? Let’s take a look… What’s So Great About Oxygen? The praises of oxygen have been sung by many over the years, but often forgotten in recent times. Oxygen has been called “the elixir of life,” and it is the most important element of life here on planet earth. Some say we get 90% of our energy from oxygen. It is one of the most powerful healing and nutritional agents known to man, both on a cellular and systemic level. And the lack of oxygen is perhaps one of the greatest factors in disease. In 1966, two-time Nobel Prize winner Otto Warburg discovered that one of the most critical issues involved in cancer is insufficient amounts of oxygen on a cellular level. Molecular biologist Stephen Levine has taken it even further, by declaring that he believes the lack of oxygen in human cells is the root of all chronic degenerative diseases. Many of the life-giving substances in the body are “aerobic” in nature, meaning they grow and thrive in an oxygen rich environment. The opposite is true with many pathogens. They are “anaerobic,” meaning they will prosper without oxygen, and will actually die in the presence of oxygen. This is true in the digestive tract, and in every other part of the body. So, we need more oxygen. Just breathe more, right? Well, unfortunately it’s not that easy. The percentage of oxygen in the atmosphere is on a downward trend. Many years ago, the world was covered with much more greenery than it is today. In addition to that, carbon dioxide levels have risen significantly due to deforestation and pollution. Therefore, we have much less oxygen available today. Many researchers believe that the less oxygen available, the more disease will proliferate. Thus, the importance of introducing supplemental oxygen into our systems. This is why a quality oxygen-based digestive tract cleanse is so vital and beneficial. Not only is it the best way to effectively cleanse the entire digestive tract, but it is also a tremendous boost to our overall health by increasing oxygen levels in the body. There are quite a few oxygen-based colon cleanses on the market today, but it is not a new concept. The idea first came to light at the end of the 19th century. A couple of German gentlemen named Thauerkauf and Luth had formed an organization called The Institute for Oxygen Therapy Healing in Berlin. They were researching a very popular theory of the day that proposed that ozone (the oxygen molecule with a third atom of oxygen added to it) had tremendous healing properties associated with it. They started with using ozone injections to treat disease, and soon developed a solid form that could be ingested. In 1898, a man named Blass marketed an ozonated magnesium compound as a colon cleanse, and called it Homozon, which is considered the Grandfather of oxygen cleansers. It was the first oxygen-based colon cleanser, and is still available today; however, Homozon is somewhat difficult to get on a timely basis and is in powdered form only. Mag O7 was the next oxygen based cleanser developed to be, in several ways, better and more efficient than Homozon. In tests performed on Homozon we have found that the oxygen content may vary as much as 50% while the oxygen content in our Mag O7 has never varied more than a quarter of a percent. What Should I Look For in an Oxygen-Based Colon Cleanse? There are several quality products available, but the most important thing to consider when choosing one is the availability of the oxygen. If your cleanser will not release oxygen and make it available to the body, it will not effectively cleanse the digestive tract or deliver usable oxygen to the rest of the body. There are five musts when it comes to a quality choice:
