Did you know that Researchers estimate that half of the world’s population is chronically dehydrated? And in America that level rises to 75 percent of the population? These are very eye-opening statistics when we consider that so many people are sipping on sodas, tea and coffee almost all day long. However, without the adequate hydration of pure and clean water your body’s biochemical and electrical processes quickly begin to break down.
Even with all the beverages available to most people, I still see dehydration at an alarming rate. Dehydration impairs your ability to think, drive, and perform crucial tasks. With age, many confuse thirst with hunger causing overeating and thus more dehydration.
Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) is one of the 13 vitamins our body must have for good health and wellness. It is not only essential for the production of red blood cells but also supports the protection of a healthy nervous system. It is also an essential element in the construction of our DNA. B12 deficiency damages the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and nerves of the eye.
In 1934, Whipple, Murphy, and Minot shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their life saving discovery found in liver. The disorder was referred to as “pernicious anemia” because before this discovery, death was inevitable. In 1948, the substance in the liver was isolated and named cobalamin (vitamin B12).
According to a new study by The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute as well as researchers in China, consuming strawberries may be a viable way to help those at risk of esophageal cancer to protect themselves from this serious disease. The study is the first-ever collaborative Ohio State cancer clinical trial to be conducted in China.
Strawberries are an excellent source of vitamin C. They contain more vitamin C than citrus fruit and are also a good source of folate, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E, vitamin A and vitamin K. Strawberries also contain an plethora of beneficial phytonutrients, including flavonoids, anthocyanidins and ellagic acid.
With the recent nuclear catastrophe happening in Japan as well as the probability that nuclear events will continue to be a part of our world, it’s prudent to have good reference information as to how the body can be supported (using natural means) and protected should high radiation exposure become a reality. Knowledge and information empower and should always propel one toward effective preparation and planning, not fear. The power of fear is destructive in that it paralyzes resulting in unwise decisions. Along with knowledge and preparedness, we must also be aware of the very real probability that the general public will not be privy to factual information. Hopefully my readers will copy this information and place in a safe place for future reference.
Fighting Radiation & Chemical Pollutants with Foods, Herbs, & Vitamins by Steven R. Schechter, ND was required reading when I was studying for my ND. It’s difficult now to find copies at a reasonable price of this out of print but very informational book. Below are some of the chapter titles and information that Dr. Schechter deals with in his book as well as some of my own research/suggestions. (more…)
I hope many of you were able to watch the NBC Dateline interview with Suzanne Somers (author of the book KNOCKOUT) and two of the doctors (mentioned in her book) who are demonstrating success in curing cancer using alternative protocols. These doctors are Dr. S. Burzynski (Houston) and Dr. N. Gonzalez (New York). Being a stage 3 colon cancer survivor of eleven years using surgery to remove the tumor, one month of horrendous chemotherapy and then alternative medicine to actually clean-up and heal my body, this was an interview that I didn’t want to miss. By the way, you can watch the entire Dateline program at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032600/#/41718740 (note that the entire program is in 7 segments). (more…)
Keeping your liver healthy and strong is one of the most important steps you can take to maintain overall wellness. This critically hard-working organ, which is located in the right abdominal area, has been called the “laboratory of the body,” and for many good reasons. Researchers estimate that the liver performs over 500 functions in the body. Some of these include:
Filtering all food and liquids, assimilating and distributing nutrients, and removing toxins and waste products.
Creating bile, necessary for digestion of fats and other substances
Burning and metabolizing fat in the body
Regulating hormones
Purifying the blood and removes damaged blood cells
Performing many necessary circulatory functions
Balancing blood sugar
Regulating fluid levels in the body
Storing and distributing vitamins, minerals, and other crucial nutrients
Despite the bad reputation that fat has developed in recent years, our bodies need a certain amount of the right kinds of fats in order to function well and prevent disease. Certain oils are excellent sources of essential fatty acids, antioxidants, and other vital nutrients. Let’s take a look at several oils that can be very beneficial to our health.
According to an FDA press release on April 8th, 2010 the FDA has decided to begin studies on the safety of Triclosan a common chemical ingredient in antibacterial cosmetics, soaps, body washes and other personal care products. Triclosan is also found in products such as clothing (marketed as Microban®), socks, kitchenware, furniture, and toys. Recent research on animals suggests that Triclosan may have negative effects on the endocrine system, which is responsible for secreting hormones that help regulate growth, mood, metabolism, etc. Past research has indicated that the chemical might help to create bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics.
According to the FDA website, www.fda.gov, in January 2010, Rep. Edward J. Markey, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and the Environment, sent a letter to the FDA requesting information about the status of FDA’s ongoing review of triclosan in consumer products. In responding to the Chairman’s letter, the FDA explained that, in light of animal studies raising questions about triclosan’s safety, the agency is engaged in an ongoing scientific review to incorporate the most up-to-date data and information into the regulations that govern consumer products containing triclosan. The FDA does not have sufficient safety evidence to recommend changing consumer use of products that contain triclosan at this time. Studies are not scheduled to be completed until the Spring of 2011 and in the meantime Triclosan continues to be included in a growing amount of products.
Are you aware that nearly 50% of Americans will develop some form of cancer today, and that by 2050 the cancer rate will have nearly doubled? (National Cancer Institute – NCI) With billions given to research for a cure, prevention methods and supposedly the most brilliant minds to task, the last 40 years have yielded very little in regards to either objective. We’re a nation with one of the greatest technological capabilities known to man, a world super power, yet have the third sickest population falling only to China and India (U.S. Census Bureau – extrapolations). Making matters worse are statistics that show chronic disease wildly more prevalent within developed / industrialized nations. (more…)
Growing research shows that inflammation may be the common denominator linking diseases such as: Alzheimer’s, cancer, diabetes, heart disease and stroke. Inflammation is the body’s natural response and defense mechanism that alerts us when something is wrong internally; blood, antibodies and other immune system components are rushed to the wounded area in an attempt to repair the damage. This response can induce pain, swelling, redness and warmth, all of which show the immune system is working properly.
We’ve been groomed to reach for the nearest bottle of Advil or prescription anti-inflammatory drug when our bodies are in pain, but in doing this we suppress our most important bodily function for healing. Instead of masking the symptoms; there are many natural resources available to help you resolve the deeper, core issue. It helps to understand that there are reasons for the different processes that occur in the body, and if we can trace symptoms back to the root, well, then you’re officially off to a good start.
Cancer – Do you know there are over 200 different variations of the disease according to the National Cancer Institute? Having the ability to grow in any organ in the body, this wicked disease claimed the lives of seven million people worldwide, according to public health expert Professor Sir John Marmott. Deaths are expected rise to over 10 million per year by 2020. It ranks as the number 2 cause of death in the United States behind heart disease. Lung, colon, prostate and breast cancer account for more than half of cancer deaths in the United States. Over 14,000 chemicals are added to the food supply in the United States today. Due to exposure from various sources, tracing a chronic illness to one toxin can be a daunting task; subsequently the connections are often never made. In 2003, a study was done by Belgian Toxicologist Dr.Charles Charlier in which he found that women with breast cancer are 5-9 times more likely to have pesticide residue in their blood than those who do not.
In a new study, researchers at the UCSD School of Medicine and Moores Cancer Center used a complex computer prediction model to determine that intake of vitamin D3 and calcium would prevent 58,000 new cases of breast cancer and 49,000 new cases of colorectal cancer annually in the US and Canada. The researchers’ model also predicted that 75% of deaths from these cancers could be prevented with adequate intake of vitamin D3 and calcium. Join Dr. Cedric Garland, lead researcher on the study, as he discusses the implications of these findings and the proposed actions.
