Oral sprays containing Lipopure /liposomes are manufactured under strict process control at our brand new Fairfield, Ca. plant. Our Lipopure system has properties which makes it highly suitable for oral bioactive delivery systems. Let's take a closer look at our oral sprays and describe their attributes and benefits over that of conventional sprays.

The building components of the Lipopure /liposomal oral spray phospholipids are derived from plants and not animals. These natural enantiomeric phospholipids are identical to components in a living cells. This renders them highly biocompatible and easily metabolized. Phospholipids are GRAS, and the fact that they are from plant sources makes them safe from animal born pathogens such as BSE. These Lipopure/liposomes are made with the phospholipids in pharmaceutical processes under specific conditions of mixing and shear. The resulting sub micron spherical particle is composed of bilayers, similar to the membrane of a cell, and resembles an onion. This multilamellar arrangement provides the Lipopure/liposomes with a biocompatible barrier function not found in conventional sprays. The spherical Lipopure/liposome contains a distinct inside and an outside: the inside contains the bioactive material sequestered in a pool or droplet from the outside or outer continuous matrix of the spray. This provides discrete sub micron packets of the bioactive material.

We can calculate from the sub micron size of the Lipopure / liposomes, the approximate number of particles at 10 to the power of 12 particles per milliliter. This provides a behemoth army of sub micron cellular level particles ready to coat and flood the mucosal layers of the mouth with precious cargo of bioactive agents. This coating of the mucosal tissue at submicron levels provides a relatively large number of distinct wells (or pools) of actives in proximity to the tissue. This proximity of Lipopure/liposomes to the tissue provides an efficient means of transfer of the active component to the cells in a sustained manner. The submicron packets of Lipopure/liposomes provides said sustained release of bioactive materials from the Lipopure/liposomes to the tissue. Sublingual absorption is well documented. This sustained release mode is different from that of conventional sprays which are in solution. Simple solutions pass through quicker with little contact and are swallowed quickly with the action of saliva. We can demonstrate this with liposomal peppermint spray versus a solution of peppermint spray at the same level. The liposomal peppermint spray is more integrated and last up to 30 minutes while the non- liposomal spray dissipates quickly with sensory impact.

We estimate a persistence of approximately a few minutes of the liposomes sticking onto the mucous membrane where the cargo of bioactive is transferred to the mucous membrane. Later with the normal sloughing off of the mucosal cells the Lipopure/liposomes are eventually swallowed into the stomach and the GI tract \\\\'here the phospholipids are metabolized by conventional biochemical pathways.

This process shows the benefits which can be obtained by the encapsulation of bioactive agents into the Lipopure/liposomes oral spray delivery system.
