LAURICIDIN®
Natural Immune System Support

Why Choose Lauricidin®?

The nutriceutical (a food additive that has nutritional and health properties) effects of Lauricidin® offer a unique way to immune system support. Lauricidin® has definite health benefits without the danger of toxicity, resistance formation or interaction with most drugs or other supplements. Lauricidin® achieves its effects by effective immune system support.

Through advanced technology, this natural substance is now available in a pearlized 100% pure form rather than as monolaurin capsules. Capsule monolaurin products contain fillers, additives, or other non-active ingredients. Lauricidin® costs 400-800% less than capsulated monolaurin. The purity of Lauricidin® is higher than the industry standard especially when compared to monolaurin capsules. Most important and different from many drugs and other supplements, ingestion of Lauricidin® is free of any drug side effects.

Much like vitamins Lauricidin® taken daily is necessary to achieve optimal health. Human studies underway today support the many benefits of Lauricidin® when used daily as a dietary food supplement. Drug claims cannot be made for Lauricidin®. Anecdotal positive reports from thousands of users worldwide suggest that serious consideration should be given to Lauricidin® as an important supplement for attaining and maintaining health.

Lauricidin® has now been extensively tested in university, government (CDC) and medical laboratories. Lauricidin® is the only monolaurin that has been clinically tested.

Antiviral Effects

Hierholzer and Kabara (1982) first reported the antiviral activity of the monoglyceride of lauric acid (monolaurin) on viruses that affect humans.. They showed virucidal effects of monolaurin on enveloped RNA and DNA viruses. This work was done at the Center for Disease Control of the U.S. Public Health Service. This study was carried out using selected virus prototypes or recognized representative strains of enveloped human viruses. All these viruses have a lipid membrane. The presence of a lipid membrane on viruses makes them especially vulnerable to lauric acid and its derivative monolaurin. These initial findings from the Center of Disease Control (CDC) have been confirmed by many other investigators.

Research has shown that enveloped viruses are inactivated by added fatty acids and monoglycerides in both human and bovine milk (Isaacs et al 199 1). Others (Isaacs et al 1986, 1990, 1991, 1992; Thormar et al 1987) have confirmed Kabara's original statements concerning the effectiveness of monolaurin.

Some of the viruses inactivated by these lipids are the measles virus, herpes simplex virus (HSV-1 and -2), herpes family members (HIV, hepatitis C, vesicular, stomatitis virus (VSV), visna virus, and cytomegalovirus (CMV). Many of the pathogenic organisms reported to be inactivated by these antimicrobial lipids are those know to be responsible for opportunistic infections in HIV -positive individuals. For example, concurrent infection with cytomegalovirus is recognized as a serious complication for HIV positive individuals (Macallan et al 1993).

Thus, it would appear imperative to investigate the practical aspects and the potential benefit of a nutritional supplement such as monolaurin (Lauricidin®) for microbial infected individuals. Until now few nutritionists in mainstream nutrition community seem to have recognized the added benefit of antimicrobial lipids in the support of infected patients. These antimicrobial fatty acids and their derivatives are essentially nontoxic to man. According to the published research, lauric acid is one of the best "inactivating" fatty acids, and its monoglyceride is even more effective than the fatty acid alone (Kabara 1978, Sands et al 1978, Fletcher et al 1985, Kabara 1985).

It should be emphasized that lauric acid cannot be taken orally because it is severally irritating. Lauricidin® on the other hand, a derivative of lauric acid chemically bonded to glycerin to form monolaurin, can be taken orally without any problem.

Antibacterial Effects

The potentially pathogenic bacteria inactivated by monolaurin include Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus agalactiae, Groups A, streptococci-gram-positive organisms, and some gram-negative organisms (Vibrio parahaemolyticus and Helicobacter pylori).

Decreased growth of Staphylococcus aureus and decreased production of toxic shock syndrome toxin-l was shown with monolaurin (Holland et al 1994). Monolaurin was 5000 times more inhibitory against Listeria monocytogenes than ethanol (Oh & Marshall 1993). In vitro monolaurin rapidly inactivate Helicobacter pylori. Of greater significance there appears to be very little development of resistance of the organism to the bactericidal effects (Petschow et al 1996) of these natural antimicrobials.

A number of fungi, yeast, and protozoa are also inactivated or killed by monolaurin. The fungi include several species of ringworm (Isaacs et al 1991). The yeast reported to be affected is Candida albicans (Isaacs et al 1991). The protozoan parasite Giardia lamblia is killed by monoglycerides from hydrolyzed human milk (Hemell et al 1986, Reiner et al 1986, Crouch et al 1991, Isaacs et al 1991).

Chlamydia trachomatis is inactivated by monolaurin (Bergsson et al 1998). Hydrogels containing monocaprin/monolaurin are potent in vitro inactivators of sexually transmitted viruses such as HSV-2 and HIV-1 and bacteria such as Neisserian gonorrhea (Thormar 1999).

Monolaurin does not appear to have an adverse effect on desirable gut bacteria, but rather on only potentially pathogenic microorganisms. For example, Isaacs et al (1991) reported no inactivation of the common Esherichiacoli or Salmonella enteritidis by monolaurin, but major inactivation of Hemophilus influenza, Staphylococcus epidermis and Group B gram positive streptococcus.

Lauricidin Product Information

Lauricidin - 8oz jar (227g) (4-6 week supply) Scoop included.

·         Take Lauricidin® in small amounts until you reach your level for optimal health and self healing. This could mean from a few pellets to 1-3 blue scoops/day.

·         When air or ship traveling, you may need to increase your maintenance level.

·         When faced with stress or "coming down with something," increase the level during these times.

·         Take daily for optimal health and self healing much like vitamins.

·         Do not chew the pellets.

·         Do not take too much, too soon in order to avoid a Herxheimer reaction.(die off reaction)

Lauricidin® is a concentrated mini-pellet (~30 mg) of sn1 (3)-monolaurin. Lauricidin® is nontoxic and does not interact with most drugs or supplements. Lauricidin® is bioactive therefore the exact amount that you need for optimal health depends on your diet and genetic makeup.

Children (3-10 year olds): Do not chew pellets. Take with meals. The mini-pellets can be placed in the mouth and swallowed with water or juice. Do not take with hot liquids. For difficult situations try placing the pellets (whole or powdered) into applesauce, pudding, peanut butter, etc. For very young children it is best to start with 1-3 pellets/day for a several days before gradually increasing the dose. The usual initial level of Lauricidin® is increased gradually to 2-3x daily for a week or two. The level can be further increased thereafter.

The maintenance level will depend on effects seen and adjusted accordingly.

Adults: Take with or after meals. The mini-pellets can be placed in the mouth and swallowed with water or juice. Do not take with hot liquids. Do not chew or take as a powder. The recommended initial level of Lauricidin® is ~0.75 gram (1/4 blue scoop) or less two or three times daily for a week before increasing the amount.

The level can be then increased to 1.5 grams (1/2 blue scoop) one, 2-3x daily thereafter.

A maintenance level can be 3.0 grams (one blue scoop) two or three times a day necessary for optimum health effects. In stubborn cases this may be increased. The length of time for taking the supplement is an individual response. Supplements need to be taken on a continuing basis for better health--much like vitamins.

Side Effects

Lauricidin® is a nontoxic nutritional lipid. Lauricidin® may, however, increase the die off of microorganisms and result in a "Herxheimer Reaction," a kind of flu, acne, allergic symptom, etc. You need to cut back on the level or even stop for a few days before taking lower levels and then going higher. Present information on Lauricidin® suggests that it does not interfere with drug metabolism or other supplements. If taken together, Lauricidin® may increase their absorption.

Lauricidin Frequently Asked Questions

Exactly what is Lauricidin®?

Lauricidin® is the trade name for the original monolaurin discovered by Dr. Jon J. Kabara. Highly purified monolaurin is now commercially available as Lauricidin® due to high tech molecular distillation. This pure pelletized monoglyceride is different from monolaurin capsules in that it contains no fillers, or excipients.

* The pelletized microform is easier to take orally and proper concentration levels can be better achieved. One blue scoop (tsp.) is equivalent to 10 capsules. Health levels may be 1-3 scoops/day depending on prior health problems.

What is the difference between Lauricidin® and Lauric Acid?

Lauricidin® is an ester (combination of an acid and glycerol) while lauric acid is a C12 fatty acid. Lauric acid is NOT an amino acid.

Are there any side effects when taking Lauricidin®?

Lauricidin®, the supplement, is entirely nontoxic. If starting levels are too high, a patient may become worse following the administration of Lauricidin® or other form of treatment that kills the causative organism. This may well be an explanation for what has become known as the Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction.

Do you sell Lauricidin® to Health food stores?

We do not sell to Health Food Stores nor do we sell to other supplement vendors. This policy was instituted so that proper information is given to users of Lauricidin®. Our objective is to provide the correct information and service in a timely manner.

How long will it take to see results?

Lauricidin® like vitamins does not have an instant effect on your health. Although we have seen results in weeks Lauricidin® should be taken 3-6 months before seeing optimum results. Because everyone’s genetic makeup is completely different individual time response will vary.

How long does a jar last?

It depends on your dosing schedule (provided with your order). One jar for an adult will normally last 4-6 weeks. The shelf life under ordinary conditions is more than three years. When kept at room temperature, samples kept in the laboratory over a period of 10 years have been shown to be stable.

Can Lauricidin® be taken with other medications or supplements?

Yes! Normally this is true but not all interactions can be predicted. Best to consult with your health professional.

Does Lauricidin® kill friendly bacteria?

Lauricidin® to the best of our knowledge DOES NOT affect friendly bacteria. Probiotics however should routinely be taken.

What is a "Herxheimer" or "die-off" reaction?

By killing off microorganisms, there is a release of toxic by-products. This release causes flu-like symptoms. This can include fever, irritability, body ache and pain. By lowering the Lauricidin® level for a week or so, this effect can be better managed.

Do you have to use a particular monolaurin?

Yes! Lauricidin® was developed from Prof. Dr. Jon J. Kabara's research and other studies which have been ongoing since 1966. Only Lauricidin® (monolaurin) has been clinically tested and continues to be used by clinicians, health professionals and their clients.

Can Lauricidin® be used when pregnant?

While Lauricidin® is nontoxic, it cannot be recommended to be taken under these circumstances. Studies have not been carried out for these conditions. You are always advised before taking any supplement to consult with your health professional when pregnant or breast-feeding.

How does Lauricidin® differ from Lauric Acid?

Lauricidin® is a combination of lauric acid and glycerol combined into a single non-toxic non-irritating product. Lauric acid alone is corrosive while monolaurin is an emollient (has moisturizing characteristics) and is totally non-toxic or irritating to the skin.

Is lauric acid/monolaurin the same as coconut oil (CNO)?

No.  Pure lauric acid cannot be ingested because it is severely irritating. When lauric acid is chemically bound to glycerol to form monolaurin (trade name Lauricidin®), there are no irritation or gastointestinal problems. In addition, Lauricidin® is more highly germicidal than lauric acid. Virgin CNO has no germicidal qualities.

Is Lauricidin® safe for pets?

Yes Lauricidin® is safe for pets but should be given at much lower levels.

How long should/can I take the product just when symptomatic or for awhile to kill the virus?

Antiviral drugs are not a cure for genital herpes. Lauricidin is a suppressive agent. A dietary supplement like Lauricidin® should be taken for at least six months or more before reducing or eliminating the supplement. Bottom line is, for good health, it needs to be taken like vitamins not just when youre symptomatic.

To inactivate herpes virus how long would I need to continue to take Lauricidin®?

The length of time for taking the supplement is an individual response. Since even drugs DO NOT cure viral problems, the supplement needs to be taken on a continuing basis for better health much like vitamins.

Could the monolaurin increase thyroid function or output of adrenaline?

It is possible that it could affect the thyroid indirectly and may explain the increase in energy. Whether the adrenals are affected is not known at this time.

Is monolaurin in capsules the same as Lauricidin® pellets?

No. The usual 300 mg capsule contains in addition to 300mg monolaurin, a base of inosine 7.5 mg and calcium-phosphate 106 mg with inert ingredients: dicalcium-phosphate, cellulose-powder and silicon-dioxide. Lauricidin®, on the other hand, is the purest monolaurin commercially attainable and is without any fillers or allergens.
