Black Elderberry (Sambucus nigra)
Since ancient times, black elderberry juice extract has been used as a homeopathic remedy for flu, colds, coughs and respiratory infections. It is wonderfully effective in immune-boosting and prevention. It is the only elderberry extract that contains a unique anti-viral compound called Anti-Viren, as well as antioxidant flavonoids which enhance the immune system by blocking the mechanism by which viruses penetrate the host cells. It has been involved in many favorable clinical studies; data showing that it cuts complete recovery time in half, reduces symptoms, and works in nearly 90% of all cases. It is a very safe product, and in it's liquid form, quite easy to ensure effective cold and flu prevention. It has no contraindications with any known products or medications, and although all research has been extremely positive, it has not yet been evaluated by the FDA.

Placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical studies have shown that individuals with influenza (the flu) who were treated with Black Elderberry extracts experienced significant improvement in symptoms, including fever, within two days. Immune system tests found a higher level of influenza antibodies in patients receiving Elderberry than those receiving the placebo, suggesting enhanced immune activity. Our Black Elderberry tincture comes from freshly harvested organically grown plants from Montana and Idaho.

Lomatium Root (Lomatium Dissectum)
Native Americans of many tribes employed Lomatium Root to treat a wide variety of infections, particularly those affecting the lungs. Lomatium was used, particularly in the southwestern United States, during the influenza pandemic of 1917 with reportedly good results. Lomatium Root supports the health of the upper respiratory system, healthy functions of the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory system and healthy function of the immune system.

Lomatium Root drew national attention in medical circles during the influenza pandemic of 1916-1918 when Ernst Krebs MD, the contract physician assigned by the government to the Washoe Indians, was surprised to see the local Washoe people recovering. He inquired as to their medicine. They called it “Big Medicine”. Dr. Krebs called it Balsamea, due to its biting odor of balsamic resins. He asked if he could try this medicine on some of his white patients and after making a crude preparation and giving it to his patients in San Francisco, he said, “They just stopped dying.” Botanists named it Leptotaenia dissecta until 1942 when it was renamed Lomatium dissectum, a slightly different classification. One of the many Lomatium species is often called "Biscuit-root", as the pulp was pounded into cakes. Its large taproot and its kinship with common carrots, also gave it the name "Indian Carrot".

Devil’s Club Root (Oplopanax horridum)
Widely used folk medicine in Alaska and British Columbia. The inner bark of the root and stem has been used to treat colds, cough, fever, and diabetes. Devil’s Club Root is a strong, reliable and safe expectorant and respiratory stimulant. Devil's Club is also known as American ginseng is used today as a body-balancing and system-strengthening tea. Scientific trials show that ginseng significantly enables the body to cope with hunger, extremes of temperature, and mental and emotional stress. It produces a sedative effect when the body needs sleep. Other studies have indicated that this root increases immune function, resistance to infection, and supports liver function. Devil's Club is used as a tonic for chronic stress of the glands such as the adrenal, pituitary, and hypothalamic. Recent scientific studies have found anti-tuberculosis chemicals in Devil's Club root extracts.

Fresh Tinctures
Most fresh herbs have 50-70% natural water content. All our tinctures are made with fresh herbs, a formula that is superior to a dried herb tincture. Food grade, 190-proof grain alcohol is the extraction solvent used. Alcohol dehydrates the cells of fresh plants, drawing out all alcohol-soluble and water-soluble constituents, resulting in a concentrate of all the plant’s components. Alcohol allows rapid absorption of the herbs by the body and gives the tincture an indefinite shelf-life.

If you prefer no alcohol, simply add the tincture to a couple ounces of hot distilled water and allow the mixture to stand 10 minutes to dissipate the alcohol. The solution will then contain about as much alcohol as in a ripe banana. Tinctures can be added herb teas for a stronger cup of tea.

Ingredients:
Grain Alcohol (50%) Fresh 1:1, Black Elderberry (Sambucus nigra), Lomatium Root (Lomatium Dissectum), Devil’s Club Root (Oplopanax horridus), natural water.

Suggested Use:
2 droppers (2ml) per 100 lbs. body weight in 1-ounce hot water.  Let stand in water 10 minutes to dissipate alcohol.  Take up to 3x daily for prevention 6x for severe symptoms.  A dropper (1 ml) means that when you squeeze the rubber pump glass ambulet it will fill to approximately half full, which is a 1 ml. dropper. 

CAUTION:
Rarely certain people may experience a harmless skin rash when taking Lomatium Root. If this happens, discontinue use and the rash will soon disappear. Lomatium Root is anti-bacterial as well as anti-viral, and at higher doses could cause depletion of the 'friendly' bacteria normally found in the intestinal tract. Addition of acidophilus to the diet should counter-balance this potential.  Do not use caffeine while taking any form of Devil’s Club, and do not take for more than six weeks. Exceeding the recommended dosage can cause insomnia and high blood pressure. If you are pregnant, do not use. Safety in young children, nursing women, or those with severe liver or kidney disease is not known. Keep Out of the Reach of Children.
